i was wondering what kind of miles i should be getting out of my 63 duo glide. it is all bone stock. kk1340

If it is dressed out, anything over ~35 mpg would be something to be proud of with modern fuels.

I recieve reports of much better, but the variables are endless, the record-keeping poor, and the egos enormous.

My '52 with Linkert carb, and 80" flywheels gets about 26MPG or so-I hit reserve at around 70 miles. How does that compare to teh average?

On my Knuckle about 30, on my UL w/hack about 25, and a whopping 38 on my WL. I am at 7000 feet above sea level.

My 58 used to get 25 mpg when I first bought it. After an engine rebuild, new distributor and some new bushings on the throttle shafts of the Linkert, I average about 33 mpg on my commute.

I average about 130 miles before I pull the reserve
88" with a S&S E carb.
If I'm mellow on the throttle I can go about 150 miles till its sukin fumes
3.9 gallons =38mpg

now how far can ya go on reserve is the question....LOL

84" motor in my '61 Duo, CV carb. Average mid-30's in traffic around town, last night's fill-up was 38 mpg.

to be perfectly honest, I never really checked it. I have always used JohnHD's 100 mile rule. If I get 100 miles on the 3 1/2 gallon tank, I need gas.

I also have a gps bracket mounted on the handlebars, I'm going to track it for the next tank or two and see what it does.

Windshield? Saddlebags? Full King of the Highway accessories package? or stripped to the bone?

Flatlands or hills?
City or highway?
Straight petrol, or ethanol blends?

Ride casual, or like a warrior?

And how much does the pilot weigh? (doh!)
As well as the most important payload: the passenger?

Without taking all these things into consideration, comparisons are futile.

From the descriptions so far, only Mr. U's '65 seems to have the least extraneous variables to KK1340's '63, although it would certainly be much heavier.

I hope it is obvious to all, however, that if a Factory-correct Pan ElectraGlide (properly over-dressed no doubt!) gets 35 mpg on today's P4gas, it shouldn't take a bastard carb for a chop to get 50.

(Unless its got one of those energy-sucking huge tires on the rear, or a loose nut on the handlebars, of course.)

Wel, Lets see.....Pic of how she is when I'm riding her is recently posted in the gallery but for some of the questioned variables, 84 cube 51 El w/S&S e carb as previously stated, B grind Sifton cam w/ solids, Nemco single fire w dual plugged STD heads,Tranny is Andrews close ratio gears if thats a variable,On a 58 frame w/ only a tool pouch, 190lb Rider, Mostly Country Riding w/Flatlands and High test prefer Sunoco 93 Octane. Ride casual meaning I don't beat it, never did, never will. I try like hell to keep my ego in check but well sometimes its a little hard lol. I'm being generous when I say 38mpg, probably more like 40 mpg but as previously stated, just 850 miles on the rebuild so far. Pretty ideal conditions I quess.
