Fire in Carb air intake chamber
was trying to start my 67 shovel and gas in the carb air intake caught fire. It burned for a little while and I had a couple of more flare ups before the bike started and ran fine. anyone know why I would have had this fire? Its not something I have had happen before.

Re: Fire in Carb air intake chamber
It was probably just flooded and backfired.
It does not necessarily mean that anything is wrong if the bike runs right.

Re: Fire in Carb air intake chamber
Improper timing or valve adjustment can cause a "frontfire" but by far the most common cause is a vacuum leak.
If the problem re-occurs,
Please pressuretest your manifold assembly as per http://virtualindian.org/11techleaktest.html to absolutely eliminate this possiblility, and avoid torching your machine to the ground.

Also, if the cylinder does not make it past tdc when cranking the machine while it is flooded can cause a front fire. Commonly called back fire through the carb.
