CV questions

I'd like to get a cv carb off ebay, but have some questions. I don't know anything about cv's and would just buy one at random if left to my own devices, so please advise. Are there different kinds, and what should I look for?
My bike has shovel-style intakes.

the first year they came out they had no accelerator pump, I think that was 88. You'll need a press on addapter to bolt up to a S&S intake (2 bolt). They are avalible on e-bay...MW

Panacea is right, first year for cv was 1988 on Sportys.
I avoid that year, (as he noted) it has no accelerator-pump..
I also avoid 1989 just because it was first year for acc pump.
(Just me), giving them an extra year to sort bugs out.. ;D

Anything from 1990 + newer. Is what I target...(as a rule)
HD uses them on everything, tc88's down to the 1 cyl Buell Blast, of only 498cc... (correction, avoid the Buell Blast cv, No accelerator pump-Thanks Craig )

Try to find an un-molested, Lo-mile take-off... (if possible)
They are basically the same.. tc88's have an extra air bleed hole.
But that poses no problem, for conversions..
I avoid the cv's that boast having the Dyno-Jet kit, in them. I throw those kits away.. Much better results can be had w/proper HD jetting & correct jet-needle...
Plus they required drilling the slide (too big)..IMO (wasted slide)$
Any that have a 'screaming eagle K&N kit' including backing plate, is a bonus, U can use a 'Nostalgia' air cleaner cover (looks right)
It should come with an enrichener cable & knob, attached to carb.
They come stock w/plastic fuel inlet elbow. Easy to change to a brass elbow (if needed, or wanted) parts are easily attainable.
If ya need more, I have schematics, & etc...

I gotta agree with everything "sleeper" (is that you Billy? ;D) said. Steer clear of any molested carbs. I have experience with CV40's from 1992 to 2002 and they all tune easily. I've saved slides that have been drilled by filling the hole with JB weld and then redrilling it to stock dimension.
Oh... and I noticed on the Buell Blast that they use the CV40 but the accelerator pump is not funtional. The casting is there in the body of the carb but the machining is not complete so I avoid the Blast CV40 too.

Haven't ever see a B Blast up close, so the info about no pump is
New to me, & I really appreciate it

Thanks for the correction on that slide hole! LOL... I must been pretty tired cause when I read that again I realized... no way is that hole close to that big I'll just edit that info right out so nobody is confused by my late night dilusions.
Looking casually at the Blast carb never would have realized it didn't have an accelerator pump. I just was up close looking and happened to see it. I made a mental note not to bid on Blast carbs on eBay.
