Carb bracket stud

The carb bracket stud, on my '61 Pan, spins freely making it impossible to screw a nut onto it. I'm referring to the vertical bracket that attaches to the bottom of the carb bowl (Linkert) and to a stud on the motor. Is there anyway to remedy this without taking the motor apart or am I just screwed?

if you mean the engine case stud, then no you are not screwed.
the stud is about 6" long and threaded at both ends 5/16x24.
as you tighten the stud look to see if the nut right above the serial # boss is spinning.just put a wrench on it and tighten the carb side one. the stud should also be a light press fit into the case(drift punch tight) if you need to you can put locktight on the LH side nut and that way you will have a solid hold on it while you tighten the nut under the carb.
or is your nut /threads striped?

OK, I I feel like a dumb ass. The thing does have a nut on the left hand side. For some reason it never occurred to me that it goes through the motor. What can I say, this is the first time I've touched a screw on a Harley.

Hey man, don't feel bad. You'll now have plenty of time to touch many bolts & nuts etc..

Would invest in a Good HD Service Manual,
It's really a 'must-have'..
