Gas leak
Have a 48 PAN. It has a gas leak from the carb when sitting. Had the carbs cleaned out, new float put in, but it still leaks. Even had a new gas shut off rod installed. Nothing has helped. What am I missing?

PHC
I think everyone can relate to gas leaking from the carb a one point or another.
The same here after years of experimenting with the float, needle and seat, fuel shut off rod, it's all over the knowledge base, tired of gas smell in the garage and a streak of gas down the case. Finally "peek" entered the scene. A few guys out there have made Peek tipped gas shut offs.
When Carl Olsen told me he was producing them for sale I jumped on on right away.
First aligned the tank shut off with the help of my friend Andy Wander and his borrowed alignment tool, then installed Carl Olsen's "peek" tipped fuel shut off rod. That was 2 years ago.
No gas leaking, no gas smell. Good investment. carlscyclesupply.com

Re: Gas leak
Panheadcrazy!
If you remove the gasline from the bottom of the petcock, does it drip?
If so, then the new rod may be faulty, or fuel may even be seeping around the brass seat itself.
With lots of surplus PEEK on hand, I proceeded to make a tip, but soon realized it was far easier (and a helluva lot cheaper) to just dress the wear from the old one!
I merely set my lathe at 45° and cut it clean.
After all, the steel will certainly last longer than plastic.

Re: Gas leak
Ill second that fix that Cotton mentioned!--I never did it but a brother did & it workrf!-(4yrs. now!)--Remember it took YEARS & YEARS for that leak to start!--Definetly more then I am in age!.----I have read a lot on Peek & I believe it has its place!--But adding another -(fix or bandaid--Font kill me LAME TERM I KNOW!)--That's to me 1-more thing that can go wrong!--A Proper cut & dressed seat is the way to go!--Just 1-guys opinion!---Respectfully---RICHIE

Richie!
I've never tried to re-cut the seats.
Dressing the rod tip was always enough.
It took me about ten minutes to do the six I had in the drawer.

Re: Gas leak
Maybe I was just lucky, but with the parts out of the tank, I put some very fine valve grinding compound on the seat and chucked the rod in a hand held electric drill. If you don't have a lathe you might give it a shot.
