Re: intake nipple thread
Rammy!
The next full oversize is quite a test a patience to apply, as I learned.
The tap was borrowed, as it is cost prohibitive, if you can even find it.
Still, it, with a custom nipple to match, may be the only way with severely stripped threads.
I had great success, however, with merely dressing the threads, and installing .010" oversize nipples.
There is but one left on my shelf, unfortunately, and the Forum member who was going to cut more has been distracted.

Re: intake nipple thread
I made an oversized one of .020 it seemed to go in good but not good enough to get a good seal.
If I had enough swing on my lathe I would mount the head to a fixture then bore and thread it, then make the nipple to fit! but I am thinking up something else to try now ,I`ll let know how it comes out....

Re: intake nipple thread
I had headhog weld up the threads on my 51 heads then re-tap. It took some time but it turned out nice.

Rammy!
Please remember that although we fill them, the threads do not achieve the seal between nipple and casting.
The sealing interface is the shoulder of the nipple against its counterbore.
It is problematic in that it is so wide.
Knuckles sensibly had a thin lip to bite against the nipple, but it was dismissed with the Pan.

Re: intake nipple thread
Cotton,I took that nipple back out and it was not seated on the flat surface like you say ,looks like my over size thread snubed up on the inside before sealing as it should. I shortened it a bit and got a good seal after a while... Thanks for the input.
