Valve starts to tap

on behalf of gerry:

my 65pan heats up after about 5 miles or so a valve starts to tap and i seem to lose power in i believe the front cylinder motor was just rebuilt recently any suggestions to what it could be?

Valve guides too tight?

Its all about the word heat.

Seizing after only five miles is extreme.

Valves and guides don't make heat, they only suffer from it.

Things like lean combustion, from advanced timing or vacuum leaks, make heat.

Or both,... at least.

Reckon it might just be the front lifters bleeding down? I would sure check the lifters and\or replace them (temporarily) with solid inserts and test run the bike before I pulled the head.
