hello, I was at my dads house today out in the shop, and he showed me his new infrared thermometer. with laser pointer. well I had to borrow this , when I got home I took some temps. after normal riding cond. 27 miles at 35 to 65 mph
air temp was: 85
oil temp: outside of oil tank 160, inside 165
trans case:130
engine case:180-210, depending on place I shot at
front head: 260 at plug 260 on push rod side
rear head: 235 at plug 235 on push rod side
opps I fogot to shoot the jugs but I will do that latter. kinda wonder about the 25 deg. temp diff in heads might explain the diff readings on plug tips.
Mbskeam
(this is all in fahrenheit not that metric crap)
Cool tool: 25 deg. temp diff in heads

Re: Cool tool
Looks like the rear head on both bikes is running at or below the front temp, that surprises me. Mike

Re: Cool tool
If you notice the readings are static , no air moving across motor. Not sure how they will be with motor under load with air moving across the motor. I will let you know next week , I have formulated a way to adapt the sensors for my multi probe temp meter to do a test while on the road. This is kinda cool , the temps on both my bike and mbskeams both show as Cotten said , the front would be above the rear , just interesting to me.I have to know how they read under load and bike in motion.
