accurately torque pan heads

I am ready to torque my 62 head bolts and I have been reading in the Knowledge base section about how to torque them as my torque wrench won't allow the socket to go on the bolt head unless I use a universal adaptor and even then it won't work on 90% on the bolts.
I read about using the 12 point box wrench which I heated and made myself and it is a curve with no straight leg but people are saying that you just need to make sure that the handle of the torque wrench is 90 degrees to the head bolt??? or horshoe wrench but how can it be 90 degrees to a curved object??
I have the wrench set at 40 lbs and it isn't clicking yet but it seems like I have a hell of alot of torque on it and am affraid to screw up the threads on the hilicoil. pissed in paradise!

The torque adapter that you use is what needs to be at 90 degrees to the axis of the torque wrench.

....and when you are figuring out the 90 degrees part, what is important is where the ends of the torque adapter are-imagine a straight line from one end to the other of the adapter(from the part that attaches to the torque wrench, to the part that goes onto the head bolt).

The shape of whatever attaches the 2 ends of the torque adapter to each other does not matter at all-it could be a straight line, a banana shape, an S shape, etc.

PERSONALLY I'm not a fan of using 90 deg in lieu of a properly calculated extension. The calculation is very easy to make, and sometimes accessibility can be an issue, as well as the length of the extension can give inaccurate results at 90deg.
The basic formula is:
wrench setting = desired torque x wrench length / (wrench length + extension length)
Make sure to measure CENTER TO CENTER on both of the extension (the tool your using to extend) and the square drive of your torque wrench. Some wrenches will be marked with the pivot point on the handle with an arrow or some other mark.

I just use a wrench and make sure it's tight..... Did you put in your timer before the heads went on?

The circuit breaker. It would be a pain in the ass to put it in after.

You know where your points are...... It has a wire that goes to the coil......

LOL I've found that you can't put it in without grinding on something...... I took the head back off to do it right.... I know better now. That's why I asked.....

I can remve the original auto advance on my stock 65 by removing points base, flyweights and front exhaust valve pushrod. Dont know if same can be done with manual advance.
