gen/oil lite in dash partition 59 pan ?

#1

Post by neilw »

I have all the parts for my dash but it seems to me there once was a metal divider that seperated the oil lite from the gen lite ,other wise you wouldn't know which was on.I looked in all the catalogs but dont see anything.
Any ideas how to make one or where they sell them?

If it's anything like mine (somewhere between a '48 and '55 or so), there's a sort of oval can (actually more of a rectangle with round ends) on the underside of the dash, with a divider between to two halves. Each light shines out through a kind of tube so you can tell which light is on. The pieces are sheet metal that appear to be spotwelded to the backside of the dash. They're part of the dash, so I would be surprised to see replacements in catalogs. If I recall, the divider in the middle has tabs that fit in slots, and the tabs are twisted in the slots to hold the divder in place.

Seems like it would be relatively easy to fabricate something that would work.

Neil,
The original dividers are a simple piece of sheet metal with a small notch in it where a tab on the housing bends over and holds it in place. It also has a short section of the same material as the dash base rubber that acts as a buffer between the glass lens and the divider. Wide part of the rubber against the glass, divider in the slot in the rubber and captive in the small ears of the dash tube, tab bent over to hold it all together. Done!

Robbie has it down.
If you don't or can't get it down, I'll be happy to hook you up a piece that will work.
