1954 speedo background ring color question

#1

Post by panster »

Hi can someone tell me what color the upper background ring, (behind numerals), should be ?
I've seen some on ebay that look definitely blue! Palmers says black/gray !
Anyone got an unrestored original, to give a definite answer please.
Thanks,
J.

I don't have Palmer's book, but I was searching for a speedo myself and came across this if it's any help.

Just a good reference picture, I have not inquired about prices (I'm scared to)

Thanks Panfreak, nice reference.
I know what you mean about prices, I'm piecing a speedo together from different years, just trying to get it looking fairly authentic.
That '54 certainly looks like a black number ring.
Thanks again,
J.

Palmer's is wrong. Original colour for a 54 is a dark blue. Almost black. 56 and up are a dark brown ... Perry

Thanks Perry,
I'll hunt for an appropriate shade.
