how to remove control wire coils from handlebars?

#1

Post by sprucecreek »

I have a 56 FLH, and the spark advance control was balky. Pulled the wire to lube it, and it wouldn't go back in. Looks like the coil (the sheath on the cable) is defective...probably a break when it bends to come out of the handlbars.

So, I need to replace it. The books say to remove the coil and the coil end plug....but now how to get it out. Any advice? Thanks.

Follow up: Ok, guys, I'm a doofus...turns out there is a set screw hidden under the housing for the horn button. Figure I'll leave this posting for a day or so to give everyone a laugh. :-)

Even when you know where everything goes, it's still a tedious and painstaking task.

Enjoy!
