Re: spark control
It should mount to the strap , which has an angle bend that aims the cable in the right direction , post a photo of what you have going on

Re: spark control
hey thanks for the reply guys I had the right stuff just seemed strange always is when your using after market parts with original parts one last question I have 2 panheads a 60 and this 59, I chopped the 60 in the 70''s so I retard the timing with my hand and hold it in place with a spring it moves real easy the 59 seems stiff any thoughts on making it real loose like the 60 thanks ron

Re: spark control
Check if the cover retainer clip and retainer below (large c washer) are original and fitted correctly.
If not it can make movement stiff.

Re: spark control
You can adjust the spring clip for less tension , maybe a little lube between clip and base.

Re: spark control
Assuming that the problem is not from the timer being set too tight, is the wire inside the spark control cable binding or in need of lubrication? On my Panhead, the wire inside the cable was binding where it was caught between one of the frame downtubes and a bent engine guard. I could advance the timing, but to retard the timing, I had to twist the timer by hand. After rerouting the cable, the left handgrip worked like it should.jade5557 wrote:hey thanks for the reply guys I had the right stuff just seemed strange always is when your using after market parts with original parts one last question I have 2 panheads a 60 and this 59, I chopped the 60 in the 70''s so I retard the timing with my hand and hold it in place with a spring it moves real easy the 59 seems stiff any thoughts on making it real loose like the 60 thanks ron
As for lubrication, you could take the big screw out of the end of the handgrip, and clean the spiral slot that the end of the spark control wire rides in, put some grease in the spiral groove, and shoot WD40 or TriFlo down the cable. That should make the handgrip spiral and cable work better.

Re: spark control
Neil yours will b a little different than the knuckle picture but basicly the same. You will have the relay mounting bracket but no relay also you will attach the horn bracket to the relay bracket your horn mounts in the front hole and your clamp for your spark control screws in the rear hole of that bracket then into your barrel. looks misaligned but it curves down to the barrel and works fine. Both brackets and clamp can b bought in the aftermarket or originals on ebayneilw wrote:hey Jade, I have the same question with my 59. can you take a photo of how it goes

Re: spark control
Here's photos of my 58. Works like a charm. Make sure to lube the control coil and all moving parts including the grip spiral
