Clutch Cable Routing with a Windshield Question

#1

Post by rozemab »

I decided to install a windshield on my panhead today. Been years since it was installed on it.

I cannot remember if the routing of the clutch cable (outlined in red in the picture) is correct. The first bend is rather severe. But the clutch appears to operate fine. It is pretty snug against the left shield bracket. I am using the mousetrap.

I can also route it outside the shield but it doesn't look right. Is there a correct path? Did HD make shorter clutch cables that would not loop into the windshield?

thanks, Brian

I think you have a non standard length cable. On my 56, the cable goes in front of the handlebar and brake cable and does not come close to the windshield.

You might check with your dealer. A few years ago HD was selling mousetrap cables out of the main catalogue-in the maintenance or vintage section.

Your solution is obvious! I routed the cable behind the bars and problem solved!!

Make sure the cable doesn't rub the tank with the cable behind the bars.
