?s about panhead seat post, and T post

I asked this question over on the AMCA site, and got no help at all! I thought they were all "ex-perts"?
Oh yea, one ex-pert corrected my question, Thanks. No matter how you put it, RL, a "casting" number, is still a part number. Hopefully I'll get it right here.
I have a friend, that is helping his friend collect the parts to build a 57.
I have a HD seat post assembly in very good condition, what is it worth?
I have a HD T post with the part number, 51912-35, casted into it, there is also the number 2 (stamped) near the end that attach's to the frame.
Was this a specific year T post, or did all Harleys use the same casted numbered T post? What is it worth? What does the #2 stand for?
If anybody can help me out great, if not, do what my Grandpa always told me.

You asked if the number on the tee was the part number and I replied that it's a casting number not a part number. I didn't correct you, I answered your question. The part number is 51900-30. 1930 all the way up. There are some slit differences over the years and Bruce Palmer points them out in his book. You can access most of this free of charge on the net. As Bob pointed out that number on the forging is not a H-D part number and does not appear in any part book. It was used by the engineering department only. It also only appeared in the fifties and is not on early tees. The 2 means nothing, it was likely an inspects stamp but no cross reference to anything is known. And yes, the number on your tee is common to all, including different types of variations. So a picture of what you have is best. And slamming the AMCA won't win you any friends! Most of the posters on there are new guys trying to learn. And most are patient and willing to wait for info and don't feel entitle to immediate response!

Thanks for answering part of my question.
I've been an AMCA member for a long time.
I asked my initial question on 5/31, today is 6/7. Not very immediate, I thought I was being very patient.
Thanks for the reference to Palmers book, I looked it up, I have a 3/8s hole, and a 3/8s bolt. So know I now, that I have a 1965, and later t post.

The running price on Fleese-Bay right now is Seat tee $75.00 & Seat post $75.00 later and $100.00 earlier. The earlier posts have a counter sunk hole where the pivit pin is installed. The later they just stuck a pin in a hole and squished it. Bob L

With all due respect, Bob, I think those are more like swap meet prices. The last seat post I bought at a swap meet was $50, and I see them go for around $100 on the Bay. The 'T's run closer to $100 and a tad more for the XE-39's (1938-early 50s).
