shut off rod
Hi guys,
This is my first topic. I recently bought a 57 hydra.
There is a aftermarket tank on it and i'm searching for a matching tank, foot shift, i have one spotted already, waiting for some pics.
The question is. I see in the parts book 2 numbers for the shot of rod.
The aftermarket shows only the 62032-40 and not the 62033-41.
Can i use the first one also on my 57? What's the difference between te 2 rods.
And what the difference between the numbers 62075-40 and -50.
Thanks in advance!
Wallie.

62032-40 is for little twins.
62033-41 is for big twins.

1950 Panhead,
For instance Retrocycle.com shows number 38-201= 62032-40 for 1950-65?
Is there a different in lenght because al the other parts of te rod are the same as the litlle twins.
In the meantime i found one in stock in the Netherlands.
Hope it wont leak.

Re: shut off rod
The rod lengths are the same. The holes allowing fuel to flow are in different locations due to the design differences in the Big Twin and 45 tanks. With the wrong rod reserve doesn't work right!
The bottom connection with the -50 part number is for the later fuel line with rubber compression sleeves, The early -40 one is for flare fittings!

57/58 tanks have round emblems.
It looks like your brackets are another year.

Re: shut off rod
1950 Panhead,
I have tins, now with later normal petcock not shut off rod, with round emblems.
I did not put them off yet but do i need the flattened tank to put the emblems on?
That will be a hard search.

Re: shut off rod
Wally,
It depends what your goal is.
There are lots of panheads running around with tanks from various years.
If you are trying to get your bike back to original you will need a pair of 57/58 tanks which are somewhat rare but do show up on Ebay ocasionally.

Re: shut off rod
Jerry,
I already have to buy to many reproduction parts to bring it back to a better shape.
The tank parts i have now does not match at all. So i'm looking to find a tank which match the look of a 57. with shut off rod.
I live in the Netherlands so i'm trying to find something overhere wich makes i hope less expensive.
Besides of the difference in brackets of the gas tins, does they fit my 57.
I also noticed that my bike has a wishbone frame with the same number stamped in on the neck as the enginenumber.
The wishbone frame ended in 1950 i red somewhere in a topic, which is already strang.
It was originaly imported in Scandinavia and import regulations in those days wanted that the frame had to have te same number, the seller told me.

Re: shut off rod
Wallie,
I have no information about spare panhead tanks in the Netherlands.
If you post a side photo I can tell you what year tanks you have.
No 57/58 tanks on Ebay today but there are some emblems.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-1957-Gas ... 2c5d9a72db" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Wishbone frames were used from 48 through mid 54.
Panhead frames did not come with VIN numbers, someone did that after it left the factory.

Re: shut off rod
Jerry,
I found this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/57-58-PANHEAD-H ... es&vxp=mtr
With the gas tank of the pictures above could that be a match although the tank is from a later date then 57.
Whats so visible on a side foto besides the ones above?
Wallie.

Re: shut off rod
Wallie,
you can use the self-adhesive adapters to mount the 57/58 name plates on other year tanks, or try to find the original 57 tanks with the flat surfaces
