60FLH Oil tank decals

#1

Post by Robert Luland »

Here is an enlightening question! On my 60FLH Palmer says the FLH decal was on each side of the oil tank. He also goes on to say the patent decal is in the center behind the seat post but in all the original paint bike pics I have, I haven't found it or can't see it. Can someone here shed some light on this. Thanks, Bob L

Bob!

My Palmer's isn't handy,
But I do know the patent decal was directly behind the seatpost on '49s.
I have yet to encounter it there on other models, for what that is worth.

According to Palmer...
37-38 two decals, one on each side
39 no decal on tank
40-55 left side of oil tank
56-60 center, behind seat post
61-65 no decals

Bob, the center mounted ones are hard to see, even if you tilt your head just right, and even harder to take a picture of when everything is assembled.

Hello Robert,

I was out in the barn this morning and snapped this photo for you. It's posted in "misc." subjects. Pat. decal from my 60' FLH. It also has the "H" decals on both sides of the oil tank.

Thanks Tony,
They're even harder to see when most (or all) of the decal is missing. That's probably what happened to most of the original paint examples, the decal flaked off, one little piece at a time, over the years.

Yours almost looks like "pirate" language; HAR.....

My '59 has the patent decal center behind the post and practically obscured by it.

Thats why the only time you see the patent decal is when the tank is out of the bike.I never seen one on the bike unless you really look for it. :D

Anyone have an idea of why HD went to the trouble of putting a decal where no one could see it?
