Gas tank emblems
I picked up a set of 64 OEM tanks and a set of OEM 63-65 emblems....I am alittle disappointed by the way they fit. The holes line up dead nuts but the contour is off....I worked them around the tank for a better fit but they are still alittle gappy on the bottom. Is there suppose to be a gasket between the tank and the emblem? I find it hard to believe that the Motor Company would have intended these to be mounted metal to metal.....Is this a common problem? I think I will make a set out of black rubber.

No gaskets is the correct assembly technique. And the emblems as sold by H-D (I have some NOS ones) are flat and have to be contoured to fit. Take your time and be patient and they will lay right on there.
