horse shoe oil tanks
why do some horseshoe tanks have threaded holes where nipples screw in others have nipples sweated or otherwise permanently fixed ? thanks!

All OEM panhead horseshoe oil tanks are going to have the swagged-on nipple fittings. Aftermarket tanks have a bung welded into the tank that you screw a nipple fitting into. There might be an aftermarket tank out there with swagged-on fittings, but I haven't seen it. I suspect the bung method is cheaper and requires less special equipment.

'36 and '37 tanks had banjo fittings for the oil lines. They have threaded fittings. There are several versions, all flat topped. '38-'39 had tapered fittings and a flat top. '40 and later all have tapered fittings and recessed tops. Swingarm models have battery strap tabs.
