Hey guys,
When I picked up my 62 pan it did not have any gas caps. I purchased a set of caps that I thought were right, (rt side vented, lt side non-vented) when I put them on the rt side fits nice and snug, however the Lt (non-vented) cap does not. When I swap them around the vented cap fits snug on the LT side also. This got me to thinkin so I checked the parts catalog. It looks as if both caps should be vented. However, I do recall reading something about this in one of the fourms that contradicted this. Can anyone tell me with certainty if both caps should be of the vented type or just the rt cap vented and the left non-vented?
Vented or not ?

Re: Vented or not ?
You need vented caps on both sides on those panheads. Later models, cant quote the year change, had only one vented cap for the right side and a vent line at the top of the tank to tank crossing over. This vented the left tank. So the left tank used a nonvented cap. All this came about because panheads with full tanks leaked thru the vented cap on the left side when parked. No tank to tank vent lines on your machine unless converted......Joe

G'day Moonlighter
Keep in mind that you can get different thickness cap seals so
you can seal them just right, and you don't loose your cap.
Partshunter is spot on, 65 I think was the first year of the single
vented cap and the tube between tanks just under the speedo.
