Duo turn signal mount

Hi, can anyone tell me if the first Pans to use the rear bar turn signal mount, had the small, square indents on the rear fender, just below the light?
I want to fit a signal bar to a fender with no indentations and wondered if an earlier bar might be a better fit, if it was designed to work without the dents !!
If that makes sense, any suggestions gratefully received,
