Rear fender painting

#1

Post by panster »

Hi,
I need to get a rigid rear fender painted. Do I;
- Remove hinge pin and have it painted in two pieces ?
- Close hinged section and paint as it will look on bike ?
- Leave hinged section swinging and accept that the paint will
get chewed up whatever I do ?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I've read that the factory painted them with the two sections joined, with the result that the paint would crack when the hinged section was raised at some later date. I think it is better to separate the two sections for painting. Ask your painter for some touch up paint, as the paint will still chip around the hinge when you raise the rear part.
