Funny thing about my stock 64 tanks and gas shut off rod. After some highway speed distance I find that the gas rod is rotating towards closed on it's own, probably form vibration & physics which I don't understand. Secondly, the rod wont stay up in the reserve position by itself, gravity always pulls it down. During the tin paint this spring I had it all apart, and believe I put it all together as it came out. Any cures for these two ailments. Seems anoying to me.

hello,
I think it needs a new rubber seal, the one on the top of the tank.I used a o-ring on mine.

Like already mentioned, Seal under the nut that screws to the top of the tank--Under the one that screws down to shut off the fuel, is shot.
I cut a piece of 1/4 rubber fuel line, about 1/8 inch long---Maybe 3/16 inch long, I can't remember- Nice and square- Seals the top and stops the rod from creeping.
It is a little stiff at first but it loosens up a bit after a few uses.
Works like a charm.
