Trim strips: what holds'em

#1

Post by Sidecar »

I've looked at pictures of stock pans that have the stainless trim strips on the front and rear fenders. Since I've never really seen one with them on it, I have to wonder what holds the strips in place ??

(These are the trim strips on the sides of the fenders)

Little wire clips.
The look like a figure eight where they slip sideways into the trim, but then the ends stick down perpendicular, into a sprung 'bulge', to snap into drilled holes in the fender.

The 50's strips on the front Glide fender are T-bolts. You have to work the T-heads down with a file, on the ones near the tip-end. Let me know and I may brief out the measurements on the re-pop site, if no one else has the info. Mine look OK. Somebody might be able to improve on what I did once they see it.

And a lot of dollars - have you seen the price these things go for? I'd be afraid to have them on my bike for fear of having them nicked.
Anyone wanting to make a fortune should manufacture nothing but sargeant stripes and 50th Anniversary badges for the '54...
Don't they reproduce these items?

Cheers,
