1955 gas tank

Post by slowsled »

I have changed my mind and will be building with 3-1/2 gallon gas tanks.
The 1955-1956 on ebay, when I see them are $700-$1100. Even $2,300.00
The two below are for sale at V-Twin.
I click on "Attributes" and study the sizes.
I click on "Additional Pictures" and study the shapes.
Which is more correct?
The additional pictures show the back end pointed on one and squarish on the other.

The original tanks have a double stair step which is the quickest way to recognize original tanks.
Some have said the reproduction tanks have a "lightning bolt".
Original tanks are best, if the prices are crazy now you can test your patience and continue to watch ebay or buy the reproduction tanks which may need some work to fit properly.

Swap meets are your friend! I'd do that over the repops. Also if you are on Instagram, try following chopperswapper, it's a group for posting chopper stuff for sale and tanks come up occasionally.

As FYI, I'm in your backyard today, working next door to Levi stadium for a couple of days, any good bar or restaurant I should check out this evening?
