1949 Tank Emblem Screws?
Searched the site and the knowledge base, couldn't find anything. I'm trying to find a tap size and screw source for the OEM gas tank emblem screws, which I think is part number 61790-47. I found a few sites selling them, but it looks like they're reselling the V-Twin screws, which might not work. I say that because a I bought a set at Oley last year and they're too big, they fit the reproduction stick on badges that use a larger, longer screw. I also need a tap size and source because the threads have been painted over. Any help would be appreciated!

Huge pain in the ass for two screws, ain't it....!
Let us know what you find, would you please? I'm in the same boat, got a set of '48-50 tanks and badges but no screws. Bought some somewhere, they were wrong.....

'47-'50 emblem screws are easy. They are very small round head sheetmetal screws. No threads in the bracket, just a normal interference fit for sheetmetal screws.

Re: 1949 Tank Emblem Screws?
Jerry and Rubone: Thanks a ton for the info, but now I'm even more confused (happens a lot). Are they sheet metal, or machine screws? If they're sheet metal, that would explain why I couldn't figure out what the thread size was, I just thought they were painted up really bad. I couldn't get any of my taps to thread cleanly into 'em and I didn't want to bugger up the threads even worse, so I thought I'd ask the collective...
Adam and Jim: He's a hell of a good source, but unless you can catch him (or one of his crew) at Oley (which I missed this year), it's pretty tough just getting a tiny order from him, and I can't blame him: it's just not worth his time.
Update: I did order the "reproduction screws" from V-twin: they're too big, but they fit the aftermarket stick on emblems just right, like the set I already have.

I’m hopefully headed to Denton on the 16th, Clete is normally there. I can hit him up if you don’t come up with a solution. I think he likes a challenge>> Find the part number for the rocker block pins for a pan. He had them & a part #, you should see all the notes in his parts books. Great guy.
