front fender bolts 61?

#1

Post by armentrout »

The fender was off when I picked up the bike. Is there anything special about the bolts that hold it on? Not sure what they looked like, I may have them in my stuff but wanted to get the right ones on there...

The fender bolts are standard thread, 5/16-18. There are different lengths depending on whether you run a bumper or not (which requires longer bolts and also spacers)the standard mounting bolts are 7/8ths long, the bumper bolts are 1-1/4 with 1/4 inch spacers.

I had lots of trouble figuring out bolt lengths and what head they had etc. Then I ordered a parts catalog called " Complete dealers catalogue of spare parts 1958-1968 " its great, shows all the bolts, their sizes and length, there is also a book for 1949-57 Panhead,& 45"SV & sevvi-car (all those in the one book) I bought mine ( 58-68 ) from Antique Cycle supply. They have their own parts catalog for what they sell too .It's a replica of an old Harley cataloge but doesnt show bolt sizes. I use them both to look at exploded drawings to be sure how things mount and in which order things go on .Like which side of a bracket a washer goes etc.
Hope this helps.

Neil,
Are you aware that Antique Cycle Supply no longer exists?

Thanks for that bit of info! I had no idea they were gone. Do you know if they were bought out and someone continuing to sell parts ? Or are they just plain done? I bought a lot of stuff off Lonie their over the last 20 years.
