I just posted a question about repairs to a Square Oil Tank in the Knuckle & Shovel section, even though we're working on a 65 Pan. Figured might get more options from Shovel Owners.
Thanks,

Re: Square Oil Tank Repair
crack in oil tank where mounting bracket spot welds on. JohnHD recommended Silver Solder in other section. Called Owner & asked if he knew anyone that makes Jewelry or would have Silver Solder & Small tip torch. We may have a Quick repair & start reassembly afterall!

Re: Square Oil Tank Repair
G'day Dwight,
I did this repair not so long back. I made one original type and put that back where it
normally goes but moved it out the thickness of the the second braket, so it all ended up in the same
place. I figured the whole setup needed extra support, thats why I made the second bracket.
I just welded them on, checked for possible leaks when done. Been back on now for about a year
holding up fine.
I think silver solders a good idea as you don't have to worry about thinning parts of the metal tank
when welding.

Re: Square Oil Tank Repair
Be aware that 15% Silfoss solder is sold in a one pound container at about $80.00 a pound.

Re: Square Oil Tank Repair
I would think welding would work fine too especially since it is steel.
Give me a holler if you need access to a welder.
