i finally have a 49 frame & tanks

#1

Post by Mr Mach1 »

When I bought my 49 panhead it was sold to me as having a bone stock unaltered frame. While that was true he didn't tell me the frame was a 57. I searched high and low and couldn't come up with a 49 frame. Through a friend at work who is a big Indian fan put me on to Don, the president of the Long Island NY Antique Motorcycle Club who had the right frame and tanks. We did a straight swap for frame and tanks. I'm over the top! I already started stripping it down to bare metal and hope to have it painted for the new year. Its great dealing with quality and knowledable people. Thanks to all here who given valuable help and advise. I'll post my progress.

Thanks again
Leon

Make sure everything fits in it first before you paint it.Ive had nightmares with stock frames that were not straight.

Here it is cleaned up ready for paint. I just came in from the garage. I epoxy primed the frame, tins and tanks and left the heat set at 75. Should be nice & toasty in the morning. Then I sand em down and spray em black, after about seven hours of heat I'll take em into the basement to finish curing.

What good eyes you have . The front fender I bought for $50. I think its 80's. The rear is 50's.

I cleaned up my wheels today. The chrome on the rims is thin and spokes are rusty. Naval jelly works wonders. They'll do till I can get better. Any ideas on what I can do to the front hub. I guess it was black at one time. Looks like a big job to mask & paint it. Rear is chrome and so so. Any feedback on new repop wheels ?

Do the 49FL triple tree tins (stainless) have Hydra-Glide on the top of them or are they blank and are there early ones and late ones.

I would rather have a worn "genuine" part than a "new" import part....bosheff
