Knuckle frame

#1

Post by kehughes »

A guy near me has this and is thinking of selling it, but I don't really know alot about it other than being knuck. All I have seen are these pics, haven't seen it in person yet. I wanted to ensure its genuine which I think it is from the pics, but as I said I never really studied knuckles alot.

Can I get some opinions on this frame? Any obvious flaws other than missing toobox mount? What year is it?

Thanks to you.

Looking at it more , it looks like it has a later neck and maybe repro at that. What do you guys think the value of this frame is and how much do you think it would cost to repair?

I'd really like to look at the photos and offer input, but I'm on my phone right now and the photos take too long to open.
I will look at them when I can get to my desktop, but that won't be before tomorrow, sorry.

Yes, that is a Shovelhead neck on it, and a mid '70s up one drilled for Superglide tanks. Posts added for coil mounts, something weird on the 5th tranny mount, also the floorboard tab on the left looks odd. But not an original Knuckle frame. As for value, it depends on how badly you want a knuckle frame. That one will be spendy to fix...

Looks like it's already had some crack repairs on the front motor mount and also the lower seat post cross member, as well as the fifth trans mount. Plus it looks a bit tweaked from the pics. I'd keep lookin'...

There are better frames out there to use for a starting point. This one is a long way from what I would call road worthy without dumpin a ton of bucks into. Just remember, a pan motor won't fit without minor/major surgery above and beyond what it already needs. I'd pass on this one even if it were dirt cheap, cause no matter how good it turns out, what yer gonna have is an old whore in a new dress....bosheff

That frame has been cut-up, butchered, and repaired so many times and so badly, I don't see where it is good for anything cept maybe a motor/tranny stand. I'd hate to see what this thing would look like fresh from the sandblaster. At best it may be good for parts, but from what I see, there are damn few of them that would be worth reusing....bosheff

Frames are fun and easy Folks!

I would have given more than four,
if it was delivered to my door.
