HOW TO "LOAD" THE SPRINGS IN THE CLUTCH SETUP

WELL TIME TO ASSEMBLE MY CLUTCH SETUP. BEEN35 YRS SINCE I DID ONE OF THESE AND FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CANT REMEMBER HOW I DID IT. I HAVE BARNETT H/D SPRINGS AND THESE ARE SOME TOUGH SPRINGS. HOW DO YOU FELLAS COMPRESS LOAD THE PRESSURE PLATE SPRINGS SO YOU CAN GET THE 3 NUTS ON ? ALL TIPS APPRECIATED.

Bob,
Several ways to do it. If you have an old upper valve collar it works. Or a large washer. You can put the pressure plate over the studs to use as an alignment guide. put the springs on the studs on top of the pressure plate. Put the spring plate on top of the springs. Put the top collar or washer over the hole in the center of the spring plate. Start the adjusting screw into the threads in the pressure plate. Be sure to screw it in a ways so it is fully into the threads. Put the adjuster lock nut on the threaded adjuster screwing it down to compress the spring pack. Install the plates correctly, staggered buffers, side marked out,out! slide assembled spring pack onto studs. Install nuts. Remove washer allowing the nuts to hold the assembly in place. Set distance from spring plate to pressure plate. Go for a ride!

I believe the stock Harley spring setting is 31/32", Barnetts might be different.
