"Short stroke" rocker clutch

#1

Post by 108 »

A few weeks ago said I would post a pic of my "short stroke" rocker clutch. The radius from the pivot shaft to the rod was increased 2" It has a 5 plate clutch with a combination of thick and thin fiber plates and no buffer. It feels more like a car clutch and will make clean shift with about half the original rocker travel.

sleeper, Yes I cruise with my foot on the front peg ,heel down between the pegs. The other foot is in exactly the same place on a peg mounted in the side car mount l. In the picture its in the engaged position . It only tilts up in the front then back down.

"Feels more like a car clutch" is a good thing!

(Tightened dampeners are bad.)

108, it looks like a clutch cable on the bottom of the rocker. i've been thinking about trying sumpin like that. i have a mouse trap eliminator on one of my pans and was gonna try to cut down the cable and connect it to my foot shift and get rid of the hand clutch. your set up looks like it's doable.

hplhd, No, thats a solid rod -not a cable. The load from the clutch is not near enough to straighten it out. I should mention that behind the spring there is a bolt screwed into the mount and out through a slot in the rocker that gives a positive travel stop in each direction. That how I can rest my foot on the front peg. Yes Cotton , the damper is just snug enough to eliminate any end play of the shaft . Otherwise you just cant get a "good feel " for what the clutch is doing, especially since this disc and linkage set-up has a short "lock-up"range, more like a hand clutch.
