MT eliminator

Well I am still sorting out the mixed up 58 . It has the MT eliminator. But the way it came the dual exhaust had to be modified by reversing the muffler bracket and using long bolts to space it out because the pipe rested against the bracket that mounts under the tank. Do any of you have the eliminator on a dual exhaust? How is yours mounted? jerry

JERRY----Would fabricating your own help?--You can make the threaded part longer ,so it just misses the exhaust!.There really is not to much to it!/Just an Idea..---Respectfully---Richie

It seems to be to high. It is bolted on top of the oil tank. I was thinking I might use a longer bolt to mount it under the oil tank mount on the frame and hold it with a n/w. I will gain about an inch lower. For now off to work jerry

JERRY--A eliminater is always mounted on the bottom of the tank/ So the cable has a straight shot at the arm!--Try lowering it/I always make them even with the arm.There might be a chance its not in the correct spot.---/Is the frame untouched in that area?--just curious,Also is the tank OEM?---Richie

I guess I should of said on top of the oil tank mount.

I will try to bolt it from the bottom of the oil tank mount an put a nut on to hold the oil tank. It will lower it an inch and align the clutch lever better , then try the exhaust fit. jerry

It belongs on the bottom of the frame bosses that the oil tank and battery tray bolt to. If I remember, the holes in the MT eliminator bracket should be threaded to accept the oil tank bolts. I don't remember if you use the same bolts or longer.
But for sure it goes underneath the frame tabs.
Your bracket looks a lot different than mine, but mine is on a rigid frame.

Frim the pics.-it looks like no problem.Excepy for the weldied part.-It happens,As said on the bottom of the tank!--Sometimes you may have to add a x-tra washer so you don't saw into the tank edge with the cable!-But according to the pics.-You should be good to go.--Also the arm should be flat & 6-7-inches long.If theres any rubbibg of cable on the trans case/Just bend the Arm up a smidge.----Richie

Well no matter how I mount this bracket it interferes with the exhaust pipe. So I have a mouse trap . I need a u-bolt for it and rod. I have a cable I think is correct but I do not think my clutch lever is correct. Any one got a picture so I can identify the right one used at a swap meet? jerry

Why not exchange your clutch arm for the shorter style so the cable can be routed behind the ratchet boss? Ala 1968 factory style. Two advantages 1) clears your exhaust, I think. 2) I've generally seen problems with adjustment when a hand lever tries to move a mousetrap clutch arm. The issue is degrees of arc travel at the shaft on the kicker cover: at a (guessing) 6 inch radius (under oil tank with short arm) you get maybe 5? Degrees of travel but with a longer clutch arm, say 9 inch? And the same handlebar lever you maybe get 3 degrees of travel. Don't forget how short the pushrods fork is in the kicker cover (1 inch?) so a 40% reduction is a lot!

If you don't want to buy another clutch arm, yours can be cut, drilled, and a slot filed to make it a short one. A picture from the parts book or service manual of the later ('68 and up) bracket can show you where the factory put it and the aftermarket ones are similar.

mine has a true dual exhaust so the left pipe gets pushed toward and touches the cylinder and makes the muffler end way out . I will scratch my head some more and see if I can make something up. Any pictures I have seen do not have the dual exhaust. If someone sees one please post it for me . thanks jerry

You have the MT eliminator bracket that uses the original long clutch arm. Most of these guys are talking about the other MT bracket that has the cable hole very close to the U shape part of the bracket. That one runs the clutch cable over the trans lid to a shorter (modified) clutch arm that ends under the oil tank instead of overtop the primary. Sounds like you need to use the shorter one u bracket and clutch arm with dual exhaust.
