I am rebuilding my generator and i am rewrapping my field coils. Anyone know what tape I should be using. Palmers book says use white cotton electric tape from any electrical store. Can't find any. Would white cloth hockey tape work?

Carl,
I would contact Dale Cashman. He is the generator guru.
I have his e-mail address if you want it.

Re: Re-taping generator field coils
I would use plain old linen gauze, and not much of it either. Wrap it with one or two layers and varnish it. The trick is not to add much thickness to the fields because the pole shoes have to press them tightly against the inside of the generator case and provide enough air gap between the armature and the fields/shoes to prevent a collision.
