oily generator

#1

Post by panhead55 »

hello. can anyone tell me why my generator is leaking oil from the left side. it is not leaking from the gasket at all but rather dripping out the the "black coated" bracket. will the generator leak if the coating on the bracket is old and rotting away? should there even be any oil in the generator in the first place? how and why does my generator have oil in it? my motor hasn't ran in a month and i just put the generator back on yesterday. this generator works fine when the bike is running. these may be dumb questions but i dont have an answer for this. thanks, billy

yes, that is correct...bad seal. i took my gear and dust cover off thinking thats where the seal should be and sent it to the generator shop. i didnt know the seal was behind the bearings and it was shot. the guy replaced a bad terminal completely cleaned out my oil soaked generator and made sure everything was good. price $68.00 with a 90 guarentee. i am a happy camper and i learned along the way too. happy easter.
