65 mainshaft seal

#1

Post by 65eglide »

Was wondering if the newer type seal ( closed) is any better at sealing than the original (open in the back)
Only asking cause one I can get today the other would have to be ordered

from what I can see, since I don't have one is the new style looks to be double lipped

Original main drive gears do not have a seal, replacement gears do.
Original clutch hub nut had a crude seal (sort of) with a spring, rubber seals are now available.
These two updates will keep more oil in the tranny and less on the ground.

Jerry!

'65s had them.

I am not familiar with anything but the common metal housing.
But anything that is easier to install is worth considering.

Better order a few of each, unless you have an installation tool.

they both have metal housing, but the originals are open in the back, while the newer ones are closed all around
didn't know if one was better than the other or they would both seal the same
