I have a 62 flh and have had transmission leaks, found most of them from leaking studs to output shaft, but now I have a leak at the ratchet shift. I pulled the chrome cover off the shifter, and the whole inside was full of trans oil traced the trail and sure enough that is where the leak was coming from. I am glad I took a look at this area because I found a broken spring on the shifter. I have reviewed my book and I see no seals, "O" rings etc that might seal this area. looks like it is leaking around the bronze bushing that the shifter shaft goes through. Has anyone had this problem and what is the fix?????
All help greatly appreciated.

Dave,
Is the case vented properly! If not it will make oil come out everywhere!
And you are not overfilling, right?

Re: trans leak at ratchet shift.
Check for a clog in the ventscrew, As Robbie pointed out!--That a highest point of the trans!--& crap will block the venting!,Also its a good thing you found the broken pawl spring!, Check shiter-fork alignment also!--I mean your in there JUST DO IT!. Your trans should shift nice when done!---I dont know what vent your tranny has but if its the top screw with the hole--Just remove it & spray some carb. cleaner & run a light wire threw it & blow it out real nice!--Should be good to go!---Good-LUCK RITCHIE!

Re: trans leak at ratchet shift.
Vent was open. I am running a right side electric start. I checked with Russ Peterson, the builder and he thinks I am running to much oil. Drained the trans and will run less oil and see if that solves the problem. Thanks again for the help.
