Tranny vent...

Post by 1951 adam »

The early case boss vent, what is the thread size? Is it worth drilling a later case boss for the vent? I would think that if a case was replaced while the bike was in service , they would have installed the later vent screw instead of the early?? Any thoughts......just trying to put this thing together as original as I can, Adam

The vent is in one of the screws for the rachet top on later cases.Thats why theres no vent in the case.If you buy a colony rachet top screw set,the vent screw is in the kit.

Thank you, It has a vent screw in there now, on the shift top, but I would like to drill the case and install it on the boss.

adam,

you may want to reconsider.

i converted mine from the case vent to the type in the top to prevent water entering the tranny. i simply soldered up the vent screw in the case and used the type that replaces one top screw with a vent and a short hose.

i know it is not oem but now i do not get the milky oil everytime i ride mine in the rain or when the bike gets one of it's very rare washes!

Panhead lifter base screw, drilled through, then counterdrilled to 3/16. Brake tube soldered in. Battery vent tube attached.
