58 running poorly

#1

Post by 58fl »

been reading you guys for years(evil manifold leak)thanks. Got a 58 that started farting out carb when engine cold a couple a couple of months ago. Has gotten progressively worse to the point where it barely runs. Seems to be the rear cylinder. Have check all the obvious, bubble test, plugs & wires, timing, condensor, coil 6v,adj valves, linkert 74. Can get it to stop farting by running richer but then get flames out rear pipe and deposits on plugs.Had valve job 3 years ago and there were cracks in both heads. Am seeing more cracks between cooling fins and some of them are oozing oil. Is it time for new heads or could it be something else? Any ideas appreciated.

I'm no expert by any stretch, but if I had crackS in a head with oil coming out, I'd figure it was time for the top to come off for a little... closer scrutiny. Original heads?

If ya gotta run it really rich to keep it runnin, yer suckin air from somewhere. I suppose it could be drawin air through a porous (sp) casting, but in my mind that is probably not likely. Do a leakdown and listen for air....bosheff
