rims and tires

#1

Post by darrylspanhead »

ok hello again! so lets talk about a wheels...i know that originally late panheads ran 16 x 3 front and rear...am i correct? so my question is whats the biggest rim (WIDTH) i can run in the rear if i decide to chop my fender off...probably only going to stick out the seat a few inches to probably around 6. im running drum brakes front and rear. i like the 16" wheel just wondering how wide? and yes im keeping my stock swingarm stock (round tube swing arm)

and what about the front? i like the pro street bobber look! so ill probably have a longer fork (thats another topic :) or not but i also like the look of a bigger wheel up front. does it matter if i get a 19 20 21 inch wheel? anything helps!

thanks so much!!!!

Original rims are 3", that is inside the bead.
If you remove the fender the next obstruction is the chain.
You can probably go to a 4" rim and a 6 x 16" tire and have about .25" clearance for the chain.

thanks jerry! i hate to ask...but can you elaborate on that...please?

so i could buy a 16x4 rim and i would be totally good? is .25 enough space? that seems like cutting it short! im not going to remove the rear fender all the way but maybe to the top if the tire or alittle more back! and about the tire...what size is 6x16?? im used to larger numbers then that...(130-140)

.25 is plenty of room, a 6x16 is basicly a 150X16, and yes you can lace different sized wheels to your hubs.

i know i already asked but was still wondering about this rim size??? the picture above of the 21" rim looks to me like its much wider then 2.15...ive found a couple rims that are 21x3.5 but im kind of looking for something in between if they make it! 3.5 seems pretty wide if im running a 4 in the rear. does anyone know?? can you put a slimmer tire on a 21x3.5 rim??? im really looking for the look above and if its a 21x3.5 then thats what ill get :)
