Spoke threads

#1

Post by Panshovevo »

The wheel lacing question brought up another thing I've been wondering about.

My '50 came with an '80s vintage Performance Machine 19" front wheel/hub/ disc brake setup in the original sliders.

Eventually, when finances permit, I will replace it with an original or repop 16" wheel/drum brake.

In the meantime, I've considered lacing a 16" wheel to the PM hub.

Spokes are not available, to my knowledge. I've thought about cutting down the 19" spokes, and rethreading them, but

spoke threads are generally rolled, not cut, for strength. I don't have the technology to roll threads.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how much cutting threads would weaken the spokes?

Can't answer your question, but I know these guys can..! In fact, they can custom-make you the exact spokes you need............

I owe you one, Bigincher. Looks like they stock spoke kits for my application.
