Anyone know a good source for black powder-coat 16" rims?

V-twin but its all the same lopsided dink junk the rest of the aftermarket sells. Why not get a set of old OEM rims stripped and powdercoated? I never had much luck getting any of those aftermarket rims to true (assuming you can get the spokes to go in).I bought two slightly rusted factory 16" rims at the last swapmeet for 10 bucks each.

Ditto!
I hear if you find one made in China it may be a little better than other repo stuff available. Also the later HD rims that are stamped DOT on them true up nicely and can be laced to a star hub but the spokes will be flip floped in direction.

Found an original on ebay that I can rebuild. Did they offer both painted or chrome in 62?

Mark,
Almost all the standard civilian production came with a factory installed accessory package. Those had chrome rims. The exception was police units which were usually built to the lowest cosmetic specifications and included black painted rims, handlebars, crash bars, cad plated horns, etc. If you build a bike with chrome accessories and black rims it will be like no package that ever came out of Milwaukee. So, yes they existed, but to be correct, everything else needs to be plain.
