Vintage Avon tire source

Does anyone know a source of vintage Avon 5.00x16 tires resembling those made in the 60s? Need to replace that Dunlop which just doesn't look right on the Captain. Thanks in advance for your time.

The tyre you want is the Avon SM Mk2 5x16. Avon are still making them here in the U.K. I have them on my bike and they look nicely period. V-Twin list them in their catalogue.

Servi-car too. Excellent tires Got "the Look" & are speed rated for 113 mph. & Avon has a 5 or 6 year guarantee on them against any structural defects,dry-rot &/or tread separation. Any questions ask AVON;

This tire is a rear, & info straight from AVON they tell you you can 'also' use them on the front, just reverse the rotation arrow.. I been doing this for more than 25+ years.

Glad we're talking tyres (or tires) here.

I've been considering Cokers, but a local tire expert advises me that they wear out quick. He tried to talk me into a set of Shinko's because he claims they are a better tire, and I believe him, but I'm not putting anything named "Shinko" on my machine. No apologies here, btw.
I'm glad I saw this post and am now considering these Avon SM Mk2 5x16's. I have seen these and wondered what they were. Now I know.
And cheaper than Cokers also.

And I agree, modern Dunlop profiles simply do not look right on an old machine.

Yup, you have to have the look, and the Avons perform well front or rear. I can buy them here in the U.K. for half the price that V-Twin charge so I will be staying with them.

I too have had nothing but great experience with the Avon MK2 tires. You'd be hard put to get me to switch from them, that's for sure!

Do a search for Avon on e-bay, there is a e-bay store that has some really good prices on tires.

I'm running Coker's and I'll be lucky to get 4500 miles out of the rear tire.
Of course, that's no worse than the Dunlops that I used to run on my dresser.

I was just wondering because of the reference to "The Captain".
I couldn't remember the persons name, but he told me that he had a Captain America scoot and I wanted to gawk (look) at it. I just burnt a copy of Easy Rider to DVD and it kinda gets to me when I watch it !!!!

Yes, I do have a Captain America replica. To stay Pa.-legal, I had to install a front brake (disc) and fender. The rear brake's a disc also. But other than
those, it's virtually identical. I was very fortunate last year and this in that I was able to visit most of the original filming locations, including the final, deadly
road!
It's one of my favorite movies of all time. I ought to complete the bike in time for winter.

Hey guys---I to love the Avon!---However I just got a new Continental-5x16 Rigid tire, its my second one & I got alot of use out of the last one!-The only reason I got The Conti & not the Avon was the price!-I got the conti for $50-brand-new & not laying on a shelf for a year-It was def. fresh & couldnt beat the price!--However when the time comes again It will be a AVON! Both have proven themselves to me & I ride everyday!-My 58 is my only source of transport! Just Like the look & tread design of the AVON a little better.---58flh
