Front Axle
Tore down the front end of my '56 pan and the front axle seperated on the left side at the end of the threads, I was wondering if they were made this way or if someone repaired it this way

Re: Front Axle
(HOLY-CRAP) is it!!!----I seen one that was so dry -(who knows for how long!), & a buddy purchased the bike., We rode 30 miles or so back to my shop & he said the front didnt feel right. We took the wheel off & the same CRAP, but it was snapped about a inch more inside!--The olny thing holding that CRAP on was the ALUM HALF-Clamp with the 2-nuts! from the bottom!---HOLY CRAP--you said it! -----RICHIE

Re: Front Axle
I believe the one in the photo is identical to the one shown above that broke. Notice the weld where the threaded slug is inserted into to a hollow tube. OEM axles are solid and not chrome.

Re: Front Axle
Here is an axle on eBay that the seller claims is OEM. By appearance, it seems to be.
When I look at the threaded end, I see a distinct line that to my eye looks like a separation between two pieces.
Is this OEM, or is it not? If OEM, what is that 'line' near the threaded end? It sure looks like more than a tooling mark.
(Now I have to go and look at my front axles....)

And for comparison, here is another one that the sellers says is OEM....

Re: Front Axle
The one in the photo is the one that broke, and the one on ebay almost looks like that it was welded to and turned down to on the threaded end

Re: Front Axle
The only difference between the one in Post #1 and Post #8 is that the first one is broken, and the second hasn't broken yet.
A real HD axle can be found for around $50.

Okay, I get it now....
Anyway, the photo I posted is right. The first one I showed on eBay is also right.
