I'm putting my hubs back together and have a question- is there a norm for aligning the zerk on the star and the zerk on the hub? I understand zerk on the star goes opposite the valve stem, but I wasn't sure about the hub.
Thanks
Gregg

Re: zerk alignment
I have a pair of original wheels and the zerk is on the opposite side of the valve core.
I have relaced many wheels and never noticed this before.
I hope we can get a couple of guys with original wheels to check.

Re: zerk alignment
This is how I currently have the hubs set up with both zerks on the same side. Not really sure if it's right. Anyone with unmolested wheels?

Re: zerk alignment
Gregg,
I looked at about a dozen wheels this morning. MOST, but not all are aligned with the zerk opposite the stem, even 18" ones. A couple were one set of spokes off! However the stars were all over the place. A couple of them lined up the point with the hub zerk (early wheels with no zerk on the star), but the rest were in random positions, most likely due to having been serviced at some point and put back on randomly.
So not very definitive research here!

Re: zerk alignment
Robbie,
When I say "opposite" I mean on the far side, away from the valve core.
Are you saying the same?
This word has double meanings.

Re: zerk alignment
So from what you guys are saying, I would be safe aligning the two zerks as I did, then respoking the rim with the valve opposite (farthest away from) the zerks, but on the same side as the star? Its a rider, but it's kind of fun to get some of the little things as close to original as possible.....
